Rapid Recovery After Dr. Ramkumar’s Common Procedures
Step Counts Below
Small data metrics like step counts are valuable digital markers to reflect, improve, and manage expectations. Step counts immediately after (1) direct anterior total hip arthroplasty with MAKO, (2) patellofemoral arthroplasty with MAKO, (3) total knee arthroplasty with MAKO, and (4) ACL reconstruction with bone-patellar tendon-bone autograft with medial meniscus repair.
The first data point is the preoperative baseline average the week leading up to surgery. The second data point is the day of surgery. Subsequent data points are the postoperative period.
- Return to baseline step count after direct anterior total hip replacement was approximately two weeks.
- Return to baseline step count of 20,000 steps per day after patellofemoral replacement was approximately 3 weeks.
- Return to baseline step count after total knee replacement was 2.5 weeks with steady gains thereafter.
- Return to baseline step count after ACL reconstruction and medial meniscus repair was 5 days (despite restrictions) with continued improvement as restrictions were gradually lifted.
