Dr. Prem Ramkumar of Long Beach Lakewood Orthopedic Institute is Youngest Surgeon to Be Named Amongst the Top 1% of Hip & Knee Researcher

Avant-Garde Health shared its Healthcare Research All-Stars 2024 list, which recognizes top physicians and hospitals across 10 specialties, including orthopedic surgery. Top hospitals and surgeons are identified by procedural volumes, peer-reviewed publications, and publication weight. 

Dr. Ramkumar was honored for his research productivity during 2021-2022.

Avant-Guard selects their All-Stars using the following criteria: 

• Identify Surgeon: Surgeons are primarily selected from the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) 
• Obtain Procedural Volumes: Surgeons are selected based on Medicare procedural volumes
• Attribute Surgeon to Hospitals: The hospital where the surgeries are performed must have a high volume of Medicare patients in the specialty
• Calculate Publication Rates: Publications are weighted using two factors: Journal Impact Factor and author position
• Create a Weighted Publication Score: A weighted publication score is calculated for each surgeon and each hospital.
