Avant-Guard selects their All-Stars using the following criteria:
- Identify Surgeon: Surgeons are primarily selected from the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES)
- Obtain Procedural Volumes: Surgeons are selected based on Medicare procedural volumes
- Attribute Surgeon to Hospitals: The hospital where the surgeries are performed must have a high volume of Medicare patients in the specialty
- Calculate Publication Rates: Publications are weighted using two factors: Journal Impact Factor and author position
- Create a Weighted Publication Score: A weighted publication score is calculated for each surgeon and each hospital.
